Sony ZV-E10 II Camera Kit (16–50 mm OSS II Lens) Review
Research-based review. Pickora separates manufacturer specifications and third-party evidence from our editorial buying judgment. We do not present unperformed hands-on testing as our own.
The Sony ZV-E10 II is a highly capable mirrorless camera built for creators who want better image quality than a smartphone without moving into a bulky professional setup.
Its 26-megapixel APS-C sensor, fast autofocus system, fully articulating touchscreen, and 4K recording at up to 60 fps make it especially well suited to YouTube videos, travel content, product demonstrations, and talking-head footage. The included 16–50mm power zoom lens adds useful flexibility for everyday shooting and keeps the kit relatively compact.
The camera also supports 10-bit 4:2:2 video, S-Log3, interchangeable E-mount lenses, and Sony's 759-point phase-detection autofocus system, giving more ambitious creators room to improve their production quality over time. The three-capsule directional microphone and included windscreen are practical additions for users who want usable onboard audio without immediately buying an external microphone.
Its main limitation is stabilization. The body does not include mechanical in-body image stabilization, relying instead on lens stabilization or electronic Active Mode for video. The kit lens is also convenient rather than premium, and the lack of an electronic viewfinder may matter to users who also plan to shoot a lot of still photography.
Editor’s Summary
The Sony ZV-E10 II is one of the strongest creator-focused mirrorless cameras for users who want excellent autofocus, high-quality 4K video, and interchangeable lenses in a compact body.
The lack of in-body stabilization and an electronic viewfinder prevents it from being the most versatile hybrid camera, but its video specifications, articulating screen, creator-oriented audio system, and upgradeable lens platform make it an excellent choice for serious content creation.

Strengths
- Excellent Video Quality for Content Creation — The 26MP APS-C Exmor R sensor and BIONZ XR processor support detailed 4K footage at up to 60 fps. Support for 10-bit 4:2:2 recording and S-Log3 also provides more flexibility for color grading and advanced editing workflows.
- Fast and Reliable Autofocus — Sony's 759-point phase-detection autofocus system supports real-time tracking and eye detection for people, animals, and birds. This makes it easier to keep moving subjects or a presenter in focus without constant manual adjustment.
- Creator-Friendly Screen and Audio Features — The fully articulating touchscreen is useful for self-recording, vertical video, and low- or high-angle shots. The directional three-capsule microphone and included windscreen also make the camera more practical for vlogging and outdoor recording.
- Strong Long-Term Lens Flexibility — Unlike a fixed-lens compact camera, the ZV-E10 II works with Sony E-mount lenses. Users can begin with the included 16–50mm OSS II power zoom lens and later add a wider, faster, or more specialized lens as their needs grow.
Limitations and Trade-offs
- No In-Body Image Stabilization — The camera relies on compatible stabilized lenses and electronic stabilization for video rather than mechanical sensor-shift stabilization. Handheld walking footage may therefore require careful technique, a stabilized lens, or a gimbal for the smoothest results.
- The Kit Lens Is Useful but Limited — The included 16–50mm lens is compact and versatile, but its variable f/3.5–5.6 aperture is less suitable for low-light shooting and strong background blur than a brighter prime or premium zoom lens.
- No Electronic Viewfinder — The ZV-E10 II is designed primarily around its rear display. Photographers who frequently shoot outdoors in bright sunlight or prefer composing through a viewfinder may find this limiting.
What changed from the original ZV-E10
The ZV-E10 II moves to a 26MP back-illuminated sensor, records 4K30 without a crop and adds 4K60 with a 1.1x crop. Video is 10-bit in all modes, up from 8-bit, and the camera uses the larger NP-FZ100 battery with a deeper grip. Menus were updated and the kit lens is the new 16–50mm II. The mechanical shutter was dropped.
Limits to know before buying
Without a mechanical shutter, stills rely on the electronic shutter, which can show rolling-shutter distortion with fast motion and banding under some artificial lights. There is no in-body stabilization, so handheld walking footage depends on electronic stabilization, which crops the frame. There is no 4K120, and PetaPixel found subject tracking less sticky than on Sony’s a6700.
Battery and recording time
The NP-FZ100 battery is rated for about 610 still shots and, per PetaPixel, more than two hours of 4K recording per charge, a large improvement over the original ZV-E10’s smaller battery.
Buying Decision
Buy the ZV-E10 II if video is your priority and you want a compact camera with excellent autofocus and 10-bit recording with a kit lens. Check the current kit price, which has varied since launch. Photographers, and anyone who needs a viewfinder or in-body stabilization, should look at a more photo-oriented model.
Value and Trade-offs
PetaPixel called it outstanding value for video creators at its launch price of about $1,000. You get a 26MP sensor, 4K30 without a crop, 4K60 with a small 1.1x crop, 10-bit color and a much larger battery. You give up in-body stabilization, a viewfinder and a mechanical shutter, which the original ZV-E10 had.
Final Verdict
The Sony ZV-E10 II is one of the strongest creator-focused mirrorless cameras for users who want excellent autofocus, high-quality 4K video, and interchangeable lenses in a compact body.
The lack of in-body stabilization and an electronic viewfinder prevents it from being the most versatile hybrid camera, but its video specifications, articulating screen, creator-oriented audio system, and upgradeable lens platform make it an excellent choice for serious content creation.
